庆帝带着范闲来到悬空庙, revealing not only the story of Ye Qingmei but also admitting that Fan Xian is his and Ye Qingmei's child. Ye Qingmei was cruelly killed shortly after giving birth to Fan Xian, forcing the newly crowned Emperor to send Fan Xian to Danzhou for safety. Despite already knowing his parentage from Xiaoyan, Fan Xian convincingly feigned surprise and excitement upon hearing the truth, even fooling the usually suspicious Emperor. Although the Emperor has high hopes for Fan Xian, intending for him to take over the Three Great Halls left by Ye Qingmei in Jiangnan, Fan Xian senses a hint of distrust from the Emperor, leaving him uneasy. He confides in Fan Ruoruo about his conflicting feelings.
Fan Xian, having faced numerous life-threatening challenges during his time in the capital, including risking his life to save the Emperor at the Hanging Temple, is recognized by the Emperor as his son. Yet, Fan Xian can't shake the feeling that he is viewed more as a pawn than a son. Despite not being Fan Xian's biological father, Fan Jian's affection for him is genuine and pure.
Fan Xian's departure to Jiangnan prompts concerns from those close to him. Wounded, Wu Zhu returns to the Fan Manor, urging Fan Xian to be cautious in Jiangnan, as the political landscape there is complex and fraught with dangers. Lin Wan'er confronts Wu Zhu about Lin Gong's death, and he confesses, leading to her vow for vengeance. However, she acknowledges that now isn't the time and implores Wu Zhu to protect Fan Xian until he no longer needs him, at which point she'll deal with him herself.
As Fan Xian sets off for Jiangnan, he is bid farewell by officials including Li Chengru, Li Chengze, Li Chengqian, and Li Chengping. Fan Jian and Liu Ruyu arrive later, with Fan Xian expressing his intention to formally pay respects to his ancestors at the Fan Family Ancestral Hall upon his return, firmly asserting his identity as a member of the Fan family. Li Chengqian, thrilled by this development, realizes that Fan Xian's visit to the ancestral hall would eliminate his claim to the throne. Li Chengze cautions him to be vigilant throughout his journey.
The Emperor assigns Li Chengping to accompany Fan Xian to Jiangnan, much to the latter's delight. Fan Jian advises Fan Xian to carefully consider his actions in Jiangnan, given the intricate web of relationships surrounding the Three Great Halls. Liu Ruyu expresses her joy at Fan Xian's decision to visit the ancestral hall, moved by his display of filial piety.
As Fan Xian boards the ship, he is disappointed not to see Lin Wan'er, but she eventually arrives to bid him farewell, and they share a tearful parting. The journey southward is met with gifts from officials and suspicious encounters with elderly individuals who seem to have grievances against the Ming family.
Meanwhile, Li Chengze and Xie Bi'an rush to Jiangnan to negotiate with the Ming family. Despite Ming Qingda's humble demeanor, Li Chengze discerns his true power, suspecting Ming Madam's influence behind the scenes. Li Chengze warns against handing over the Three Great Halls to Fan Xian, leading to tensions and threats from Li Chengze towards the Ming family. Ming Qingda suspects betrayal within his own ranks but is reprimanded by Ming Madam and ordered to issue a decree for Li Chengze's expulsion.
Tensions escalate as Li Chengze issues a bounty on Fan Xian's head, attracting mercenaries and inciting attacks on Fan Xian's ship. Ming Madam, seeking to rid herself of Li Chengze's interference, orders his expulsion and punishes him for his insolence. Amidst the chaos, Fan Xian's journey to Jiangnan becomes increasingly perilous.
